Job Overview
The Peatland Manager is responsible for the design, implementation, and monitoring of all peatland-related interventions in carbon offset projects under the Forest and Other Land Use (FOLU) sector, particularly in accordance with Verra's Verified Carbon Standard (VCS). This includes rewetting degraded wetlands, managing hydrological restoration, avoiding planned wetland conversion, and maintaining ecological integrity to ensure long-term carbon sequestration. The role bridges technical fieldwork with project documentation and verification requirements under Verra and/or other certification.
Key Responsibilities
1. Project Design & Technical Implementation
Plan restoration and conservation measures that enhance peatland ecosystem functions, biodiversity, and carbon sequestration.
Design and lead rewetting activities for drained peatlands using best practices (e.g., canal blocking, bund construction, and water table restoration).
Develop and implement strategies for Avoided Planned Wetland Conversion in alignment with Verra VM0046 and other applicable methodologies.
Coordinate baseline assessments including land use, hydrology, peat depth, vegetation, and socio-economic factors.
2. Carbon Methodology & Documentation
Interpret and apply relevant Verra VCS methodologies (e.g., VM0046, VM0007) to design eligible interventions and estimate carbon benefits.
Prepare or support the development of Project Description (PD), Monitoring Report (MR), and other validation/verification documents.
Ensure compliance with Verra registry requirements and updates, including buffer pool, permanence risk, and non-permanence monitoring.
3. Field Monitoring & Data Management
Develop and execute monitoring plans for GHG emissions, water table depth, peat subsidence, and vegetation recovery.
Oversee installation and maintenance of hydrological monitoring equipment.
Analyze and report technical data to feed into carbon accounting models and verification reports.
4. Stakeholder Engagement & Capacity Building
Liaise with local communities, government agencies, and partners to promote co-benefits of peatland restoration.
Support FPIC and community co-design of livelihood options aligned with peatland conservation.
Train local staff and field teams on peatland management best practices and data collection protocols.
5. Environmental and Risk Management
Conduct risk assessments related to fire, illegal drainage, and encroachment.
Develop fire prevention and early response strategies specific to peatland areas.
Ensure adherence to environmental and social safeguards (e.g., Verra CCB standards, IFC PS).
Qualifications and Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Forestry / Natural Resource Management/biology or a related field
Min. 3 years of experience in environmental project management, preferably in the peatland conservation or restoration
Experience in voluntary carbon markets, including project development, carbon accounting, validation and verification processes
In-depth knowledge of peatland ecosystem, hydrology, and effective restoration techniques
Proficiency in relevant software, including Microsoft Office and project Management tools (experience with GIS is preferable)
Fluency in English (written and spoken) and Bahasa
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail
Working Conditions
Work involves both office-based research and extensive fieldwork in forested and remote locations.
Exposure to various climatic conditions, rugged terrains, and wildlife.
Collaboration with conservation teams, landowners, and governmental organizations.
Periodic travel for stakeholder meetings, ecological assessments, and project evaluations.

Work closely with Jakarta and Singapore teams especially head of landscape manager.
Engage with local communities, government agencies, and international conservation partners.

Tirta Carbon Indonesia (TCI) is the local project entity responsible for implementing Project Kukar, a large-scale nature-based carbon initiative based in Kutai Kartanegara, East Kalimantan. TCI is part of the Integrate Climate Group, a Singapore-based project developer specializing in the conservation and restoration of forests, wetlands, and peatlands across Southeast Asia.
