Environmental Engineer Responsibilities1. Regulatory Compliance Management
- Policy Implementation: Ensure the company complies with national, local, and industry-specific environmental protection regulations in Indonesia (e.g., Environmental Protection Law, “Three Wastes” management, etc.).
- Permits & Reporting: Handle environmental-related procedures and permits (e.g., air emission licenses), and regularly submit environmental monitoring reports, emergency response plans, etc., to regulatory authorities.
- Compliance Audits: Organize internal environmental compliance inspections, identify potential violations, and promote corrective actions.
2. Environmental Risk Prevention and Control
- Pollution Control: Supervise the treatment of pollutants such as wastewater, air emissions, solid waste, hazardous waste, and noise to ensure standard-compliant discharge.
- Environmental Monitoring: Coordinate with third-party agencies or use equipment to monitor environmental indicators (e.g., wastewater, organized and unorganized emissions), analyze data, and propose improvements.
- Emergency Management: Develop emergency response plans for environmental pollution or accidents, organize drills, and lead incident responses when necessary.
3. Sustainability and Continuous Improvement
- Energy Conservation and Emissions Reduction: Promote green projects such as cleaner production, resource recycling, carbon reduction, water balance, and wastewater reuse.
- System Maintenance: Participate in the establishment and maintenance of ISO 14001 Environmental Management System.
- Technological Innovation: Introduce new environmental technologies or equipment to enhance environmental safety performance.
4. Internal and External Communication & Coordination
- Departmental Cooperation: Collaborate with departments such as Production, Engineering, Procurement, and PMC to ensure environmental safety measures are integrated into business processes.
- Government Liaison: Coordinate with the Environmental Protection Bureau, industrial zone authorities, and other relevant agencies during inspections and maintain good relationships.
- Public and Community Engagement: Respond to environmental complaints from surrounding communities or the public and disclose environmental information (e.g., CSR reports).
5. Documentation and Records Management
- Maintain environmental safety records (e.g., hazardous waste transfer forms, monitoring reports, training records, emergency drills, etc.).
- Prepare environmental performance reports to support management decision-making.
- Other daily tasks including training and organizing files, documents, and records.
Job Requirements - Environmental Engineer
Education & Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or above in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
- Relevant environmental certifications (e.g., ISO 14001 auditor, AMDAL/UKL-UPL training, etc.) are a plus.
Work Experience:
- Minimum 2-3 years of relevant working experience in industrial or manufacturing environments.
- Hands-on experience in managing wastewater, air emissions, hazardous waste, and environmental monitoring.
- Experience in handling regulatory audits and permit applications is preferred.
Knowledge & Skills:
- Good understanding of Indonesian environmental laws and regulations (e.g., Environmental Protection Law, “Three Wastes” management, etc.).
- Familiar with ISO 14001 Environmental Management System implementation and maintenance.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, especially in interpreting environmental data.
- Ability to prepare and review technical documentation such as monitoring reports, emergency plans, and compliance checklists.
Soft Skills:
- Excellent communication and coordination skills to work with internal departments and external authorities.
- High level of responsibility, initiative, and attention to detail.
- Able to work independently as well as in a team.
