Communication & Design Specialist for Sponsorship Program – Waikabubak

Background

Save the Children in Indonesia is changing for the better. We have begun to build a national organization that aims to be a strong, local, and self-sustaining voice for children in Indonesia. To this end, SC Indonesia has been designated as a “ Prospect Member ”. As ‘Prospect Member’ Indonesia has been identified as part of the next way of new member development, which focuses on strengthening and localizing our voice for children in strategic middle-income countries. Indonesia has been authorized by member ballot to start fundraising locally as a first step towards building a financially sustainable local organization. Future work will also involve developing a strong local governance structure and building key partnerships with local government, the private sector, local civil society, among others. The success of the pilot phase will set Indonesia on a pathway to full membership.

Save the Children Indonesia’s Sumba Field Office is implementing a comprehensive long-term Sponsorship Program and other projects for the next several years. The Communication and Design Specialist post holder be in charge of developing and implementing communication strategies, products, and deliverables. S/he will work with the Sumba Field Manager and other program departments in Sumba Barat, Sumba Tengah, and Sumba Barat Daya districts on communication work of the Sponsorship Program and other projects at the Sumba Field Office, especially the Water for Sumba Initiative and will be responsible for developing and delivering communication strategies, producing quality communication products and deliverables; acting as the communication liaison between the Sumba Field Office and the national office.

Objectives

Content development

  • P roactively develop and manage Save the Children in Sumba or related projects under this position through the production of high-quality, well-researched, and well-written content (in a variety of mediums) reflective of the dual mandate portfolio, responding quickly and appropriately to requests for information, especially in emergencies.
  • Plan/create communications materials to be used on multi-media channels
  • Create and maintain library system for press and other media reports
  • Edit and consult on field case studies, successes stories and work with graphic designers and videographers to promote the successes and activities of the programs of Save the Children Indonesia through agreed online and offline outputs.
  • Provide creative, editorial and operational support for communications projects.

Brand and Reputation

  • Contribute to ensuring awareness and involvement in building and maintaining the brand in all project field sites and with all external project stakeholders, including partners.
  • Support the development of the fundraising communication programme (to include integrated cross-channel appeals and campaigns) to maximise support from existing donors and attract new supporters.
  • Support on providing effective and sustained communications support to the programs and advocacy campaign and promote these programs with national societies and other partners, as well as media.
  • Support staff to make effective use of brand .
  • Support the development of brand materials.
  • Work closely with the ACCM team at the national office to develop brand strategy and update it as necessary.

PR & Media

  • Preparing communication materials for the media and other key audiences.
  • Assist in the implementation of public affairs activity
  • Support programs in developing their communications and media capacity, including standard communications deliverables, media products, spokespeople and social media.
  • Timely dissemination of media products to key media contacts in an emergency
  • Coordinate and facilitate journalists’, donors and other visits to Save the Children programmes.

Networking and partnership

  • Provide technical support for Save the Children Sumba Office’s implementing partners when required.
  • Develop and maintain working partnerships with local government, media, communities, and relevant stakeholders.
  • Represent the Sumba-based project at district networking/ coalition meetings when required.

Other tasks as specified and agreed with the Sumba Field Manager.

Required Background and Experience, Skills and Behaviors

  • Degree or equivalent in communications, journalism, design, public relations or related areas.
  • At least 5 years of experience in advocacy, communications, media, event management, or public relations in a non-profit organization or private sector or relevant experiences.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Bahasa Indonesia.
  • Ability to work fast, effectively, and independently in often highly pressured environments, working across a number of teams to deliver high advocacy and communications outputs.
  • Sound grasps of different communication tools.
  • Good understanding of the use of media to undertake campaigns and advocacy work.
  • Sound understanding of the major economic, social development and poverty issues as well as child rights issues in Indonesia.
  • Experience in working in a multicultural environment.
  • Innovative and creative approach to problem-solving.
  • Commitment to Save the Children values.
  • Experience of and willingness to travel in the country, sometimes at short notice and for extended periods.
