We intend to achieve this through safeguarding the remaining forest and peatland from deforestation, degradation, and fragmentation; maintaining forests and peatland quality through sound stewardship; and restoring degraded ecosystem to improve its productivity, conservation value, and ecosystem services. To effectively eliminate deforestation from keymodities production and proe robust stewardship for the remaining forest and peatland, we work together with various level of government, private sector, and civil society to mainstream the ethical supply chain principles, and support forest-dependentmunities to secure their land rights. We aim to achieve this through research, policy advocacy, and creation of amunity of practice to mainstream sustainable land use management.
Smallholder Empowerment Program WRI Indonesia believes that empowering oil palm smallholders is key to producing sustainable palm oil in Indonesia. Empowered smallholders have the ability to control and manage their oil palm business properly and sustainably. With this capability, smallholders welfare and the environment s quality are expected to improve. Therefore, increasing the inclusiveness of smallholders in sustainability and empowerment programs is indispensable to a better and greener palm oil supply chain in the country. Collaborating with Unilever, WRI Indonesia aims to improve the sustainable palm oil supply chain and the welfare of smallholders in Riau Province. This is done through a series of capacity-building and empowerment. In 2023, we aim to increase the knowledge and skills of at least 4,000 smallholders to implement oil palm Best Management Practices (BMP) in order to improve their productivity.
Job Highlight The Smallholder Hub Project Lead is responsible for leading the smallholder empowerment program in Riau Province. This includes leading the coordination with donor(s), monitoring the progress of the activities on the ground, and supervising District Coordinators, Group Facilitators, and WRI subgrantee(s) assigned in Siak, Kampar, Rokan Hulu, Rokan Hilir, Pelalawan, Indragiri Hulu, and Indragiri Hilir Districts. This position will be based in Pekanbaru, Riau Province. He/She will report to Supply Chain and Livelihood Transformation Senior Manager and work collaboratively with Sumatera Regional Senior Manager and other AFOLU Program teams to support the implementation of WRI Indonesia AFOLU strategy.
What You Will Do Project Management (50%) - Proe leadership to the overall implementation of the Smallholder Hub program, including, but not limited to, program planning, budgeting, program monitoring, and reporting.
- Develop an annual implementation plan in coordination with relevant AFOLU team members.
- Monitor budget spending periodically to ensure efficient and timely use of the available funding in coordination with the Project Coordinator and Project Assistant.
- Coordinate the necessary internal documentation for project implementation with WRI Indonesia Operation team, in accordance with WRI Indonesia policies and regulations (e.g., procurement of services, travel documentation, etc.).
- Develop the necessary staff planning in coordination with relevant AFOLU team members and proe direction to program staff to ensure prudent and timely project delivery.
- Coordinate data collection with team members and lead the development of reports, including, but not limited to, donor reporting and monitoring and evaluation reports.
Outreach and Stakeholder Engagement (50%) - Develop annual stakeholder engagement strategy as necessary in coordination with relevant AFOLU team members.
- Establish strategic engagement andmunication with the donor in coordination with the national project team.
- Establish strategic partnerships with relevant stakeholders in the provincial government, district governments, private sectors, and NGO partners.
- Lead the implementation of Smallholder Hub Program activities with team members and coordinate periodically with the regional team.
- Lead the development of outreach material, training modules, and implementation of general outreach and capacity building as necessary.
- Liaise with the WRI Indonesiamunication team for anymunication-related products and events.
What You Will Need - Legally able to work in Indonesia
- Minimum master’s degree in rural development, agriculture, or otherwise a technical qualification in the smallholder development subject area.
- Proven practical experience working in the palm oil sector, preferably with smallholder producers, and familiarity with issues related to palm oil production.
- Minimum 7 years of progressive professional work experience related to palm oil sustainability standards, auditing, smallholder certification, agribusiness, ruralmunity, sustainablemodities certification, plantation business permit, environment, and farmers GAP improvement-related activities.
- Previous experience working with localmunities in Riau.
- A clear understanding of environmental and social sustainability issues affecting agriculturalmodities.
- A good understanding of Geographic Information System (GIS).
- Experience in building awork of relationships and partnerships with villagemunities, government/authorities, civil society, and other stakeholders engaged in environmental issues.
- Ability to work independently and with conence to take initiative and make decisions.
- Strongmunication, listening, and interpersonal skills, especially with local farmers.
- Ability to track and monitor project progress, expenses, budgets, deadline, and project deliverables by using various monitoring tools.
- Ability to develop budget and financial report using funder or internal templates
- Ability to conceptualize and convey strategic vision from the spectrum of smallholder development experience.
- Able and willing to travel and spend substantial amounts of time in the field as required.
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and a logical thinker with an ability to multi-task and work well under pressure
- Business proficiency in English and Bahasa Indonesia, both verbal and written.
- Good coordination ability and team working spirit.
- Proficient with the usage of Microsoft Office applications, such as MS. Words, MS. Excel, MS and Power Point.
- Good organizational skills, with strong experience in organizing and facilitating meetings and writing reports.
Contract Arrangement Full-time with fixed-term employment agreement for 1(one)year period with 3 (three) months of consultancy contract apply before the fixed-term employment agreement started.
